14th Annual Charles R. Drew Health Symposium – July 2020


On July 25, 2020, Brothers from Tau Tau Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. in collaboration with Options for Recovery and Compton Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma, Inc. held their 14th Annual Charles Drew Health Symposium.  This event was broadcasted live via Zoom Webinar.

Topics of discussion were: Substance Use Disorders, Safety During the COVID-19 Era, Physical and Mental Health, Political and Social Action, Importance of Blood Donations, and Voter Registration.

Panelists included:  Mike Gipson – California State Assembly Member (64th District), Lynn Yonekura, MD – Executive Director (Options for Recovery), Tana McCoy – Councilwoman (City of Compton – 3rd District), Thomas Oden, MD – Clinical Psychiatrist, Jabril Johnson, PhD – Biomedical Researcher (City of Hope), Sean Inoue – Account Manager (American Red Cross), Tim Gipson – Retired Financial Crimes Investigator (LAPD) and Nikiah Hawkins – Attorney, Voter Registration Chairman (Omega Psi Phi – Tau Tau Chapter).

This event was coordinated and chaired by Brother Bill Coleman. The committee consisted of Brothers Charles Ezell – Basileus, Ed Young – Southern California Area Representative, Gerald Brown – Publicity Chair , Nikiah Hawkins – Voter Registration Chair and Paul Hodson – Emerging Leadership Institute Program Chair.
